Three United Herzlia Schools in Highlands Estate held a clean-up operation after a fire broke out along the mountain’s in Vredehoek on Monday January 16, affecting part of Deer Park. Scores of pupils were told to help with clean-up operations, after their campus was shut down for the day. Pupil Greg Furman said on Facebook: “I am calling upon all pupils from the respective affected Herzlia campuses to attend school tomorrow in old clothes to clean the campuses together. This is our school and we will not let a natural disaster break our spirit,” he said. Armed with cloths and mops, they cleaned the layers of ash and soot that coated classrooms, desks, equipment and floors at the school.
