Bo-Kaap Athletics Club (BKA) celebrated its first anniversary on Tuesday October 24. The club held its “party” at Wectec hall in Bo-Kaap, on Thursday October 26. Anees Gamiet, chairperson of BKA, started the club with a handful of people to promote health and fitness and so far more than 100 members have joined. Since the club’s inception, registered members have already participated in many races. Thirty of them have already run their first half marathon and 10 have done their first marathon. The club focuses not only on health but also on social upliftment and charity in and outside the community. The youngest member is 10 years old and the oldest is 69. The club’s future plans include to recruit more youth and anyone is welcome to join the group. ROSHAN ABRAHAMS captured the fun.
