Islamic New Year

The Muharram March took place in the Bo-Kaap on Sunday October 9 in celebration of the Islamic new year. During the march, hosted by the Boorhaanol Islam Movement, significant heritage sites in the area, including the Tana Baru Cemetery, were visited.

Hundreds gathered to celebrate the Islamic new year and pay their respects at the Tanu Baru Cemetery in the Bo-Kaap.
Sheikh Muhammod West, from the Boorhaanol Islam Mosque was among those at the event.
Troop leader of the Habibia Siddique Muslim Brigade, Captain Abduragman Alkenny was at the march.
Zaid Salie spoke to visitors at the Tana Baru Cemetery.
