St George’s Rugby Club were crowned the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Super League A (SLA) club rugby sevens champions following a 26-20 win over Helderberg Rugby Club, at the Kraaifontein sports field, on Saturday.
The Luluboys, as St George’s are known, were dominant throughout the club sevens tournament.
This past Saturday, they beat Gardens, Hamilton, Durbanville-Bellville (Durbell) and Helderberg to be crowned the champions.
The team from Strand also took an individual award. Speedster, Ronaldo “Nalo” Daniels was crowned the Western Province Score Sevens Player of the Tournament.
This year was, however, something different for Helderberg Rugby Club. For the first time, a club from Helderberg managed to be in a Super League A final in their debut season of the 15-men and sevens rugby campaigns.
Tygerberg beat Durbell 22-10 in the third and fourth place playoffs.
False Bay Rugby Club won the plate section 24-7 over rivals, Hamilton Rugby Club.
Kylemore beat Busy Bees 26-21 in the bowl section final.
