Hamilton RFC have a tricky encounter this coming weekend when they take on Durbanville-Bellville (Durbel)in a Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Super League A encounter.
Hammies’ third match of the season comes on the back of a 33-all draw against UWC.
Hammies are yet to register a win after two rounds this season and will need a much improved performance against Durbel.
In other action, third-placed Union-Milnerton (Uni-Mil) suffered their first defeat of the season, away to Stellenbosch at the weekend.
The final score was 35-25 in favour of the students.
This was Uni-Mil’s first loss of the season after winning both opening league games against Paarl 46-29 and 63-29 against Hamilton.
Uni-Mil seemed to be sending a strong signal to their rivals in their first two opening league encounters.
The big scorelines proved their run to the semi-final of last season’s SLA was no fluke and are looking to maintain the same form. They lost to the same Maties side in the SLA semis last year.
Going to this encounter, they would have expected a tough contest from Maties and will be expecting to easily bounce back this weekend against Primrose.
It was also Maties first fixture of the season and they went in with a bang against Uni-Mil, probably knowing very well that Uni-Mil were capable of causing an upset.
Of all the sides that have played three rounds, Uni-Mil have scored the highest points this season.
In other action, Brackenfell made light work of Primrose Rugby Club, in Brackenfell.
The final score was 50-15 in favour of an on-form Brackenfell side and sent Primrose to the bottom of the log after three rounds.
Primrose are yet to register a win.
They came into the game against second-placed Brackenfell with the will to win following their 10-56 defeat to False Bay a week ago and 10-54 loss to log leaders, UCT, a fortnight ago, however, Brackies had other plans in mind.
Despite the first, second and third teams being outplayed by Brackenfell on the score sheet, Primrose’s under-20 side showed signs of resilience after they registered a 29-24 win earlier on Saturday.
It does not get any easier for Primrose in the top flight as they will travel away to a recovering Uni-Mil on Saturday.
At the weekend, UWC defeated a crippled Paarl side 34-28, in Paarl. This was Paarl’s third loss in three games.
UWC will tackle Brackies at home on Saturday, while Paarl will travel to UCT.
Elsewhere, Tygerberg and False Bay remain unbeaten.
False Bay were awarded a 20-0 scoreline as their opponents, Victorians, have pulled out of the league.
Villager crushed NTK 57-14, before they were thumped 7-38 by Tygerberg.
Stellenbosch will host SK Walmer and NTK will host Tygerberg.
