Chantel Erfort, editor of Cape Community Newspapers, which publishes this paper and its sister titles, has committed to running a 12km trail run to raise funds for the Good Hope SPCA.
Having recently run her first half marathon, Chantel will be taking the challenge off-road by participating in the Sanlam Cape Town 12km Peace Trail Run on Saturday September 14, one of five events which are part of the Cape Town Marathon.
This is the fourth time the CoGH SPCA is using the Sanlam Cape Town Peace Trail Run and Marathon as a fund-raising platform and Chantel joins about 15 other runners who are part of Team SPCA.
The aim of the campaign, dubbed “A new leash on life” is to raise funds for the organisation, as well as awareness around the animals which are up for adoption at the Grassy Park-based SPCA. Other runners will be raising awareness about the SPCA’s efforts to put an end to animal cruelty.
Explaining why she agreed to run for Team SPCA, Chantel said: “When I look back on the beautiful years I spent with my dog Billy, I can’t help but feel like everyone should have a pet and experience the unconditional love they give. I wish every animal had a home where they felt loved and safe.
“I’m running to raise awareness of the fact that there is an amazing facility where pets and people can find each other. I’m running because I would love more humans and animals to experience the life-changing love they can bring to each other.
“And I’m running to ask you to either support the SPCA’s work financially, or pop in at their adoption centre and help one – or more – of the animals find a forever home.”
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the animals which are up for adoption at the SPCA.
“The CoGH SPCA are very pleased that Chantel has partnered with Team SPCA by challenging herself to run the Sanlam Cape Town 12km Peace Trail Run.
“Her run, in honour of her beloved Billy, will highlight the plight of many dogs and cats at the SPCA seeking a new ‘leash’ on life through our adoption drive,” said CoGH SPCA’s fundraising officer, Natasha Johannes.
