The Girl Guides will be attempting to break a Guinness World Record on Wednesday April 4 by making the world’s longest string of plastic bottle lids. The lids are being collected for recycling to raise funds for Operation Smile, which provides surgery to children born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. The event will be held at the Old Mutual sports ground, in Pinelands, from 8am to 5pm, and there will be entertainment, stalls to browse and food trucks. Bottle tops can also be dropped at the municipal libraries in Sea Point, Bellville, Bothasig, Athlone, Somerset West, Brackenfell, Goodwood, Parow, Fish Hoek, Observatory, Rondebosch, Pinelands, Table View as well as Table View Mall.
