John Parry, Sea Point
Referring to “Lisbon lanes an option?” (Atlantic Sun letters, October 20), firstly, cycle lanes are normally separated from motorised transport by a white line but from pedestrians by curbstones – cycles are road traffic.
Secondly, Green Point fan walk has clearly defined cycle and pedestrian ways but no physical separation, the markings are ignored.
In the same edition of Atlantic Sun, our new cycle mayor states: “He suspects men generally think – incorrectly – that they should automatically know how to ride a bike.”
The number of times we have seen Up-cycle bikes out of control are innumerable – back pedal braking is not automatic. Also the bikes would be illegal in most countries as they do not appear to have two independent brakes.
