FC Kapstadt’s young talents are shining brighter than ever as their under-14 teams clinched knock out titles in the Cape Town Tygerberg Local Football Association’s Division 4 and Premier-1 sections.
The Division 4 under-14 team, predominantly composed of 12-year-olds, displayed their prowess in a remarkable fashion. They swept through the season undefeated, capping it off with a resounding 3-0 victory against Stephanian Ottery AFC in the final.
This victory not only earned the Observatory club the Knock Out Cup championship, heading into the game they were already the league champions a majority of the teams feared playing against them.
On the other hand, the Premier-1 under-14 team still has four league games remaining and has already secured a stunning victory in the Knock Out Cup. On the road to the finals, they beat FN Rangers 3-0 in the semifinals. On Saturday, they outclassed Vasco Da Gama 3-1 at the Green Point Salesians’ Football Club’s sportsfield at Stephen Way.
The road to victory was not without its challenges, as FC Kapstadt’s president, Zaid Omar, explained. The heavy rains that flooded Hartleyvale Stadium created substantial hurdles for the young athletes. Training and playing home games became exceedingly difficult, and at times, they had to relinquish their home advantage to their opponents.
“Firstly I am extremely proud. It was against much adversity that we achieved the success. Western Cape experienced some of the worst winters this year. Hartleyvale Stadium flooded regularly. All the teams would have won a league or knock out.”
FC Kapstadt’s success this season serves as an inspiration not only to their young players but also to the entire community.
“Success is not about winning trophies but the character of the kids. For them to have stuck to it with discipline, throughout it all, I am extremely proud of them,” said Omar.
As the season unfolds and the Premier 1 under-14 team completes their league fixtures, the FC Kapstadt family and their fans eagerly anticipate more moments of brilliance from these young stars.
Their story continues this week when they kick off the Kapstadt Cup 2023, at Hartleyvale Stadium in Observatory, St Georges Grammar School, in Mowbray, and in Green Point, from Wednesday October 4 to Sunday October 8.
