The first Stadio Champion of Champions under-20 tournament is currently taking place at the Stephen Oval in Green Point.
The tournament which is hosted by Hamilton SP Rugby Club began on Monday September 12 and will run until Saturday September 17.
This invitational tournament is held for under-20 teams playing in the Western Province Club Rugby League.
A total of eight teams is taking part in the tournament with clubs representative of the Super B and Super C leagues, challenging teams from the Super A league.
The eight participating teams are Hamilton SP RFC, Stadio Invitational XV, UniMil RFC, Tygerberg RFC, Bellville RFC, Hands and Hearts RFC, Strand RFC and Blue Star RFC.
According to Andries Carstens, one of the organisers of the tournament, the aim of the tournament is to give players a platform to compete against teams they don’t normally play against. Through Stadio Higher Education, a man of the match will be awarded for every match, and a team of the tournament will be selected by the WP under-20 Head coach, Labeeb Levy.
The winner of the tournament will be determined by the top position on the Champion of Champions log and the Challenger Trophy will be awarded to the team from the Super B and C league teams that have the most log points.
Eight games will be played on the final day, kicking off at 10am and the last game kicking off at 5pm.
All the matches will be live-streamed by Club Rugby Live and the gate entry is R10.
